The story behind your name:   Antonio Antonio  //  (James) Victor  //  Kimmy  //

Antonio Antonio

I was vaguely sketching people in some cafĂ© in Granada, Spain when this fellow drawer comes over and we get chatting. He loved the idea of this book about the story behind the names and said he wanted to be included.
Well to start with he's Antonio. And to end with he's Antonio - yes, he's Antonio Antonio. His dad is Antonio Antonio. His grandad was Antonio Antonio. His great grandad was Antonio Antonio. In fact all the 1st borns on his father's side have been male and each of them were given the name Antonio Antonio for at least 4 or 5 generations. Like this, they felt they have been able to trick time as there'd always be some male in Granada called Antonio Antonio.
However Antonio says he doesn't like this tradition and said he's carried the weight with him ever since he was a boy. If he himself has a son he doesnt want that son to go thru the same presure that he's felt. Therefore he wants to break the chain. What would u do if you were Antonio Antonio with a new born son?

(James) Victor

James simply has his dad's name. But his 2nd name has a good story.
When his mum was expecting him, James's parents lived on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland. One hot afternoon, his mum was alone cooking in the kitchen when her waters broke. She called for an ambulance but there was a go-slow / strike so the hospital said one would arrive eventually but she might be better taking the bus to the maternity ward.
By chance the upstairs neighbor was also at the bus stop, and saw Victor's mum was distraught and in pain with her convulsions. He helped her on the bus. To try and distract the pregnant woman from the pains of convulsions while on an Edinburgh bus the neighbor told her so many stories of his life story, how he'd walked all the way from Scilly to Scotland where he was now penniless, how he had somehow had opened a salmon shop and nowadays supplies salmon to the queen of england.
Once they got to the hospital things went smoothly. James's mum was so grateful to the neighbor. And wot was his name? U guessed it - Victor!

Kimmy

Kimmy's quite a common name in the UK but not in Portugal where she was born. Well, actually her name's Catarina. It's her dad's 'fault'  she has 2 names.
To everyone else she was known as her real name -  y'know, the one on her birth certificate. Only her dad called her Kimmy as a cute name... for some reason he'd simply always liked that name. Now she was 4 and off to start nursery school. When Kimmy's parents told her new form teacher that her name was Catarina , the teacher gave a bit of a huff!

"Oh sorry nothing personal, it's just we've already got 2 Catarinas. So she'll be the 3rd."
Just then her dad said to Kimmy/Catarina "Hey Kimmy, look at that picture on the wall."
The teacher looked confused.
"You said her name's 'Catarina'"
"Oh it is," said the dad. "That's just a sort of nickname I call her at home."
"Hmm, Kimmy", said the teacher thoughtfully. "Well there's no Kimmy in the entire school... would u mind if we called her Kimmy instead. It would just make life a little easier."
So to her family, except her dad, and to some friends she's called Catarina but to her dad and school friends she's called Kimmy.

Micol

Her name's Micol. Nicol's a pretty common name where Micol lives in Italy. However no-one else in her village is called Nicol, so every time people hear her name she always has to say "No, it's Nicol - with an 'N'."
Her mum was an avid reader and choose the name coz she'd fallen in love with one of the characters in a story about a friendship between 2 young adults, the author and a girl named Micol. The author's in love with his classmate Micol and they spend as much time as they can together. But classmate Micol only really likes him as a friend. When they go out on a date he has to accept there isn't any real passion behind the kiss. Classmate Micol wants to remain best friends but the author feels too furstrated being in 'the friendship zone' so finally in desperation he leaves the town to start a new life.
'Our' Micol loves her name as she's the only Micol in her village. But she can't help feeling sad for the author.

2: Victor

James Victor    As far as his 1st name goes 'James' woz simply named after his grandad. It's his 2nd name, Victor, which has the story... ready? JV's parents were living in Edinburgh and at the beginning of summer the mum's sitting at home 9 months preganent watching a bit of tele when guess wot - her waters break. But she can't get an ambulance coz they're on strike. It's raining so has no luck grabbing a taxi. She ends up taking the 37 bus to the maternity ward!  Also on the bus woz her Italian upstairs neighbor on his way to work. During the long ride to distract a mother-to-be as much as pos whose waters have broken and is having severe contractions he tells her crazy tales of his adventures of how he'd walked penniless from Sicily all the way to Edinburgh. Our hero's name? Victor, of course!

..............................
1: Xuxu

My friend name Xuxu means: a, wee wee / b, Kiss me, kiss me / c, Go away / d, I dunno / … Read and found out

Xuxu’s from Malaysia but I met her in Lisboa and we immediately became great friends. Xuxu is actually pronounced ‘she she’, which, as every Portuguese speaking kid will tell u means ‘wee wee’ in English – (tho the Portuguese spell it xixi ) So how do i tell my new friend Xuxu ( aka xixi, (she-she), wee-wee) – what her name means in Portuguese. When I finally pluck up the courage I’m amazed when she smiles and says it means the same in Malaysian too. Why would any1 call their kid ‘wee wee’. She tells me it isn’t her real name but she’d actually earned it from her school days and was so proud how she’d tricked the school system that she’s kept it ever since as a nickname. She explained that one day in primary school she had to do a maths test but was terrible at maths. Poor Xuxu- who wouldn't have been called that yet of course, got so nervous she wet herself. Her teacher was understanding and let her go off and change into dry clothes. She had a gr8 idea–  from then on whenever she had a test she would drink a bottle of water before and then deliberately wet herself half way thru to get out of finishing the test!

So now u not only know Xuxu’s story u also know the Portuguese and Malaysian word for wee wee :) !!
